1239 First Street was built in 1857 for the wealthy merchant Albert Hamilton Brevard, though sadly he died just two years after moving in. The house, which is built in a transitional style, has both Greek and Italianate features and had several additions made to it in the years following Brevard’s ownership.
In 1989 Anne and Stan Rice bought the property on First Street and it quickly became a part of Anne’s novels. 1239 First Street was the inspiration for Mayfair Manor, the home of the Mayfair Witches, and there are several elements of the house which feature heavily in these novels. 1239 First Street was sold in 2004 and is now privately owned.
